College students with disabilities are often saddled with a maze of new and often costly requirements to "prove" that they have a disability and subsequently access disability services. Many students are forced to pay out-of-pocket ($500-$2500) for new tests to demonstrate they indeed have a disability, despite their well-documented history of having an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan in K-12 education.
The RISE Act (S. 1071/HR 2401) is a bipartisan, bicameral piece of legislation that would allow a well-documented history of having an IEP or 504 Plan to provide sufficient evidence of a disability, thereby easing the burden for students.
Urge Congress to take action on this bill so that students with disabilities no longer face this unnecessary barrier during the transition to college.
I am writing to urge you to cosponsor the Respond, Innovate, Succeed, and Empower (RISE) Act (S. 1071/HR 2401). The RISE Act is a bipartisan, bicameral piece of legislation.
